Something recently happened to me which made me realize that I had to write this blog – let me explain.
I am a Christadelphian and have been for many years, I believe that the Bible is God’s message to us, without one word being added or taken away from it and that the Lord Jesus Christ will return to this earth very soon to judge us and set up His Kingdom.
However, as I said at the outset, this incident really brought home to me the speed of events foretold in the Scriptures.
It was early afternoon on a pleasant day, and I was sitting in my lounge facing the window, when suddenly there was an unexpected movement which made me look out of the window. There, just over my garden fence and about seven to eight metres in the air was hovering a thing/person and it was looking directly at me.
My instant thought was that the Lord Jesus’ long promised return had come at las. My call to judgement was actually happening! Normal, everyday life would never be the same again. One moment humdrum human existence, then suddenly the Day of Judgement had come!
I rushed to the window but immediately realized that it was only a man in a fire- retardant suit with a jet pack on his back. He was learning to control and fly the jet pack! It really left me so deflated and upset.
As you can imagine, having thought long and hard about this incident, it has made me realize that although we are not told in detail of how or when the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will take place, what we are told is that it will be instantaneous.
The Bible is warning us of this very fact. Just look at these verses!
The Lord Jesus will return: –
“Suddenly”
Mark 13:35-37 ESV
Therefore, stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
“In the twinkling of an eye”
1 Corinthians 15:52 ESV
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
“As a thief in the night”
1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 ESV
For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
“Immediately”
Luke 12:35-36 ESV
Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.
Therefore, while it is called “today”, I urge you to put your lives in order and learn what God requires of us by reading and obeying the Bible, so that when the Lord Jesus Christ does return, we will all be ready and waiting.
I can do no better than to finish with the verse in the last chapter of the last book of the Bible. Revelation 22 verse 20 where the Lord Jesus says,
“Surely I come quickly”.
