The Rainbow

The Rainbow

The rainbow is a common sight nowadays since it is used extensively to show support of the NHS during the Covid19 pandemic.

A rainbow in the sky has been a frequent occurrence in the sky over the centuries causing wonder and even myths e.g., the pot of gold at its end. However, it really is a meteorological phenomenon caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets.

When did the rainbow first appear? In the very first book in the bible, Genesis and in chapter 9 verses 13-17 we read that after The Flood God told Noah that all flesh would never again be totally destroyed by a flood.

13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

So when we see a rainbow in the sky it is a message of hope for the world, a message about the soon coming Kingdom Of God

The Bible tells us that God will judge this world very soon when He sends The Lord Jesus back.

Acts 17 v31: because He has fixed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
